Thoughts to ponder: Are you the nagger, or the "stay silent and drive my other half crazy" type?

Went to BCA for some bird photography with scubapup. Spent a few hours only. It rained all morning.

The Heidelberg

The Heidelberg, originally uploaded by psilver [silverph.com].

My late grandfather owned a printing shop in Quiapo in the Philippines. It is now operated by my aunt and still going strong. I used to go there because I had a small printing business too. Although my aunt has already embraced modern technology a few years back, the old machines like the offsets and letterpresses are still operational and being utilized in some printing jobs.

Everything is black and huge; and makes clanking and whooshing sounds. You can smell oil, ink, and other chemicals and the large moving parts fascinated me. I would stare at one of the machines as it picks up a single sheet of paper, rollers rolled, inks imprinted, and then an arm would quickly but gently transfer the single printed paper into a neat stack next to it. The whole process would start again in just a matter of a few seconds.

Before my Philippine visit last December, I already have visualized the places I wanted to shoot and this was one of them. Unfortunately, I did not have much time so I only have a couple of handheld shots taken. I will definitely go back there when I get the opportunity.

I will post more photos soon.

Due to increase work load, unfinished projects, and spring cleaning, I will be unable to leave comments on my contacts photos for about 4 weeks. I will, however, still view them on my spare time. Thank you for understanding.

Planting Fields Arboretum - no tripod restrictions even inside the greenhouses.
April 16, 2008

Camera: D300
Lens: Nikon 70-200mm VR f2.8 with Tamron SP Pro 36mm extension tube.
No crop. Full 12.3mp. Resized for web.

I need to practice more on focusing. Maybe a smaller aperture will help.

I can spend an entire week in Planting Fields Arboretum and have something to photograph. I love the greenhouses.

Nest-building Osprey

Nest-building Osprey, originally uploaded by psilver [silverph.com].

Went to BCA for some Osprey in action shots. I did not see them feeding but I did see a pair of osprey rebuilding their nest. I spent about 2 hours observing them.

Weather was crappier than I expected. Overcast, gloomy at times and windy. What the heck happened to the sun this morning?

This is almost 12mp. Minimal cropping.
