Low flying bird

Low flying bird, originally uploaded by psilver [silverph.com].

This bird was shot using the cheap Tamron 70-300mm lens. It is my second lens after buying the Nikon D50. I find it sharp and lightweight. The only problem is that it produces chromatic aberrations usually in full sunlight, which, I think is not a big deal as long as the images are sharp and clear.

Noah’s Pigeons

I’m getting hooked with this Flood plugin! I’m about to go beyond the trial software! Is it worth buying? Will the effect get old quickly?

Just bored here, trying different effects.

Thank you TER for that awesome Photoshop trick! I might have to adjust a bit as I might’ve overdone it here. www.flickr.com/photos/21311958@N00/

Update: Nah, the flood software is too expensive to keep. In fact, I don’t use it much anymore.

Woman of Power

This is part of my experiment with flash and portraiture. I wanted Tina to portray a confident and strong woman which she really is.

Damn you Capture NX! I’m starting to like you a lot! Thank you jowy_e for giving me a few pointers and showing me the potential of this product. The scary thing is, Capture NX 2.0 is coming out! Nikon is very sly when it bundled the previous version of Capture NX as part of the Nikon D300 package. It made a lot of people try out the product and get hooked. Great marketing! Now these new followers, and I am a big part of it, may have to shell out a hundred bucks to buy the new version! This is tough as Lightroom is coming out with a major revision too (and also requires users to shell out more dough). Lightroom unfortunately, messes up my initial raw conversion (overexposes them for one) but the workflow and other functions are almost perfect. Capture NX is way more accurate and produces cleaner images. Workflow is the big problem with Capture NX and from what I have briefly read, version 2s workflow has improved. I will find out soon if it can replace the Lightroom/CS3 combo.

I finally found the right settings for my duotones! I wonder if it will work on people as well?

Heckscher State Park View with Lightning

Heckscher State Park View with Lightning, originally uploaded by psilver [silverph.com].

I think I like this version. Trying out some rendered lightning in PS3. Yeah, lightning isn’t perfect yet but I don’t want to spend too much time on this image. Let me know what you think.

Viewing this in Firefox makes it look darker than my processing. Better viewed on Safari. You can see more details on the rocks.

Grandchildren

I have taken a couple of formal shots of my parents and their grandchildren but this particular image is what I like the most. It is informal which portrays action. You can see how happy they are being with the kids and obviously having a great time.

I just finished setting up the camera and then I took a couple of informal shots before telling them I was ready.

Priceless.

Trying my hands on portraiture.

As much as the Nikon D50 is capable of almost anything, it just falls short on some aspects especially in sports and child photography. It’s time for me to upgrade soon. :)
